Have you ever sat across a person on the subway and wonder what’s their story? Have you ever peered into a building and see that every window has a different life? Everyone lived today differently. I have this feeling I’d have to live 1000 different lives to fulfill my passions and empathy for others.

My name is Mariam Yar (she/her) and I’m an Afghan-American actress currently based in New York City. I am a recent NYU 2026 graduate with BFA in Drama, where I trained at the Atlantic Acting Studio, Experimental Theatre Wing, and earned my role as a Certified Actor Combatant with the Society of American Fight Directors.

I’m originally from Danville, California, but I call New York home. I’ve been performing since the age of 5 and always knew I wanted to be involved in the arts. My goal as an artist is to authentically tell stories through performance. Growing up, I never saw someone who was also Middle Eastern on stage or on screen, therefore I hope to illuminate Middle Eastern representation within American media and entertainment.
